TOEFL
The Test of English as a Foreign Language, TOEFL®, is a standardized test designed to measure the ability of a nonnative English speaker to understand and use English in an academic setting. It is the most accepted English-language test in the world. TOEFL® is required primarily by English-language colleges and universities. Additionally, such institutions as government agencies, businesses, or scholarship programs may require this test.
There are three types of the test: iBT (Internet-based test), PBT (paper-based test), and CBT (computer-based test). Although a CBT score is still accepted by some schools, it is almost replaced by PBT and especially iBT TOEFL®. A TOEFL® score is valid for two years. Each school has its own TOEFL® score requirements to enter its academic programs.
Language Pacifica offers TOEFL® preparation classes, both iBT and PBT. It is also approved to conduct PBT tests which are held approximately once a month. Those students taking the test receive their PBT test scores without leaving the school, as well as the opportunity to test their English proficiency as many times as they need. All the colleges Language Pacifica partners with in the Concurrent Acceptance Program accept PBT TOEFL® scores.
Paper Based TOEFL Test
The TOEFL Paper-based Test (PBT) is the most traditional approach to taking the TOEFL test. The test is about 3 hours long and all test sections are taken on the same day. Students can take the test as many times as they wish. However, colleges and universities usually consider only the most recent score.
PBT has three sections, listening, structure (grammar), and reading, plus usually a 30-minute writing test, the TWE® (Test of Written English). The test mostly consists of multiple-choice questions.
• Listening Comprehension measures the ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America.
• Structure and Written Expression measure the ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English.
• Reading Comprehension measures the ability to understand non-technical reading material.
Language Pacifica provides TOEFL PBT preparation classes, including preparation for the TWE. However, the PBT test conducted in the school, runs without the TWE® (Test of Written English) .
It is also approved to conduct PBT which are held approximately once a month. Those students taking the test receive their PBT test scores without leaving the school, as well as the opportunity to test their English proficiency as many times as they need. All the colleges Language Pacifica partners with in the Concurrent Acceptance Program accept PBT TOEFL scores.
Internet Based TOEFL Test
The TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) is the most innovative approach to taking the TOEFL test. The test is about 4.5 hours long and all test sections are taken on the same day. Students can take the test as many times as they wish. The TOEFL iBT measures a test-taker's communicative abilities in all four basic skills - reading, listening, speaking, and writing in English.
• Reading Section consists of reading passages and questions. The passages are on academic topics a kind of material which can be found in a university textbook. Students answer questions about stated details, inferences, sentence restatement, vocabulary, etc.
• Listening Section encompasses passages of student conversations and academic lectures or discussions followed by specific questions. It measures the ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America.
• Speaking Section consists of independent tasks where students must address opinion questions, integrated reading, listening, and speaking tasks that test the students' ability to understand and describe how the ideas of the passages are related, as well as to express opinions.
• Written Section consists of independent and integrated tasks to measure a student's ability to express his/her opinion in written English.

With hands-on exercises and followed discussions, they will help you to build your own strategy of taking each section of the test and implementing these strategies in practice.
