Q1: When can I enter your
school?
A1: For the convenience of our students, Language Pacifica has
an open enrollment system. On Mondays, we give a placement test
starting at 8:30 a.m. New students can take the test, then
begin classes the same day.
Q2: What kinds of programs does
Language Pacifica offer?
A2: We have a variety of programs. Most students study in the
full-time program, which is designed to prepare students to
enroll in an American college, work as a professional using
English, or to develop English skills for any other purpose. We
also offer both group and private English for Business courses.
Q3: Do you offer Institutional
TOEFL? Do you offer International TOEFL?
A3: Language Pacifica offers the Institutional TOEFL (PBT) once
a month. It is open to Language Pacifica students only.
Students must sign up as soon as possible for this test, as
space is limited. Language Pacifica does not offer the
International TOEFL (iBT), but we do often have a preparation
course for it. Contact
the school for current information.
Q4: Can I transfer from Language
Pacifica to a US college without taking the TOEFL test?
A4: Yes. Language Pacifica has a conditional acceptance policy
with Foothill College, De Anza College, College of San Mateo,
Canada College, Skyline College, Menlo College, and Notre Dame
de Namur University, whereby completion of our level 6 can substitute
for the TOEFL test.
Q5: What is the minimum length of time I
can study? The maximum?
A5: A student can enroll initially for as short as one week,
and for as long as eight months. It is possible to extend the
study period after studying for the initial period.
Q6: How large are the group classes?
A6: Our group classes are limited to 12 students. The average
number of students per class is 7-10.
Q7: How many levels do you have?
A7: Language Pacifica has six levels.
Q8: Is the school closed during the
summer? Winter?
A8: Language Pacifica is open throughout the year. We close for
national holidays, for example, July 4th and Thanksgiving. We
also close during the period between Christmas and New Year's
Day.
Q9: Do you issue the I-20? Can I get a
student visa (F-1)?
A9: Yes. The student must complete our application, enrolling
as a full-time student. This will give us the information to
make the I-20. We will send the I-20 to the student, and then
the student will take it to the US Consulate or Embassy in
their country to apply for the student visa. See “Student Visa Applicants”
for more detailed information.
Q10: What are the qualifications of
your teachers?
A10: All Language Pacifica teachers have graduated from
American universities with Bachelor‘s degrees, and then have
advanced degrees, credentials, or experience teaching abroad.
Q11: Where do your students come from?
A11: Last year, Language Pacifica had students from over 55
nations worldwide. Our students come from Europe, Asia, South
America, and Africa.
Q12: Where do your students live?
A12: More than half of our students stay with American hosts.
Language Pacifica works with a network of around 150 hosts in
the area. We carefully screen all of our hosts and make changes
whenever necessary. In addition, many of our students look for
rooms to rent on Craigslist or in local newspapers; we will help students looking
for this kind of accommodation.
Q13: Is Language Pacifica close to
public transportation?
A13: Yes, we are two blocks north of the Menlo Park train
station, which is the main station for trains and buses in
Menlo Park.
Q14: Does the school arrange activities
for the students?
A14: Language Pacifica offers several excursions for students
each month. We also work with a tour company that arranges
weekend trips to areas beyond the Bay Area, such as
Disneyland/Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, and Yosemite. In addition,
we offer movies, an after school sports club, trips to the San
Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and monthly parties.
Q15: How about airport transfer
service? Will you meet me at the airport?
A15: Yes. Language Pacifica offers both airport pick-up and
drop-off services. We suggest that students unfamiliar with the
United States use our service upon arrival. Getting back to the
airport at the end of your stay is quite easy, and we'll help
you arrange for a low-cost shuttle.
Q16: Do your students receive a
certificate at the end of the program?
A16: Yes. At the completion
of the student's individual course, all Language Pacifica
students receive a Certificate of Achievement.
